.uk is the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, commonly seen used in the third level domains '.co.uk' or '.org.uk'.
Until June 10th 2014, it wasn't possible to register a domain directly on .uk (e.g. example.uk). You could only register .uk domains as a third-level domain (such as example.co.uk).
When .uk domains became available to register in 2014, Registrants with an existing .co.uk, .org.uk, .me.uk, .net.uk domain (that was registered before October 29th 2013) were given the Right to Register their domains' .uk equivalent.
As owners of toolkitwebsites.co.uk, since 2014 Toolkit Websites have had the Right to Register toolkitwebsites.uk. No one else has been able to register this domain name. See this when doing a WHOIS lookup on Nominet here:
However, as of June 25th this year, all Rights to Register will expire and on July 1st, all .uk domains will be released for open registration.
This means if your company domain is exampledomain.co.uk, anyone will be able to register exampledomain.uk
