This month's website of the month is for Friends of PICU, a local charity that was set up in 2006 by nursing staff and parents of children who have been cared for on the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit in Southampton.
The charity aims to support the children and their families, by providing vital equipment and services that are not normally provided by the statutory authorities. The charity maintains the family accommodation on the unit, which has recently undergone a major refurbishment program.
Meryl Allderidge, a trustee of FoPICU, came to us looking for a new website that would be both easy for the charity to keep updated, and look welcoming and attractive.
Using the distinctive pink from their branding, we put together a design that allows FoPICU to highlight how website visitors can donate to the charity, and keep the public updated on their latest campaigns. for example, the charity are currently campaigning to save the children's cardiac unit in Southampton which is threatened with closure.
If it is forced to close, children from across the south coast, Isle of Wight and the Channel Islands will be sent either to London or Bristol. Southampton is a successful centre and is rated the 2nd best performing unit in the country. Not only are the surgical team outstanding, but there is also parent accommodation available, on site at the hospital and in houses close by to the hospital.
In addition, if the cardiac unit is removed from Southampton, it will impact on the rest of the children's services. Half of the PICU beds could be closed, along with the retrievals unit that picks up very sick children from their local hospital and brings them to Southampton.
If you'd like to show your support for the campaign against closing the children's cardiac unit in Southampton, you can sign an
online petition here. All of us here at Toolkit Websites sincerely hope that the new website for FoPICU will help them with their invaluable work. We're pleased to note that Meryl was also very happy with our service:
"What was great? The clarity of the design process, ability to see progress real time via the Toolkit. Understanding of the brief/needs resulted in very good delivery of the design options." Check out the website here:
